Hey Momma and Daddy,
You’re new to homeschooling, right?! You are also worried you’re going to fail at this new job you have.
This whole COVID-19 has thrown you into unchartered territory because now you are the parent and the teacher. It’s something that you are not prepared to do. It’s something you feel like you’re going to fail.
Trust me; you won’t fail your child! You may think you are not equipped to help them, to serve them in the best capacity, but you are the PERFECT person to help them thrive in this time.
You are finding out that they are brilliant for their ages. They know things in younger grades than we learned the same information. So it scares you. It makes you feel as if you are not capable of making a difference for them in this new territory. But, you may also be finding out that your child is struggling in areas you were not aware of before you became the teacher. It’s important to understand that you can help them fix these struggles.
Parents, you are the perfect teachers to get your kids out of the mentality that they have to know the exact answer for everything. You are the ideal person to teach them that they can think outside of those little circles on the standardized tests. You are the person that is going to teach them to love learning again and think for themselves. You are the person that is going to be able to teach them to use their imagination again.
You are the Perfect Teacher
You will learn the routines pretty quickly; you will also learn how smart your children are. You’re learning how much they know, and it blows your mind. You are learning that your teenagers are learning things in lower grades like Algebra and Geometry. They start these classes in Third and Fourth grade instead of in High School as we learned it.
Mommy and Daddy, you are the PERFECT person to teach them to love learning again. Maybe you have a youngster that is having trouble with reading. So your job is to sit down with them and learn what stories they like to read. You then take them through stories you can find on the internet, through Kindle books or whatever book application you use. Utilizing apps you can get free on your phone will help them to read by reading stories they love, you can find many free ebooks through Kindle, just do a search in Amazon.com for FREE KINDLE BOOKS.
As their parent, you can work one on one with them to help them sound out words they have trouble with pronouncing or understanding. You can download books like Alice in Wonderland, Moby Dick, and other amazing classics. You can download free and cheap books from many children’s authors that will help them grow not only their reading ability but also their imagination.
You’re Going to Be OK
Mommy and Daddy, you are going to be ok, when all of this is over you will realize you did a fantastic job at helping your children to be better students, but also enabled them to become actual KIDS again. They will be able to get out of the mentality of filling in bubbles and be empowered to use their imagination and think about things they enjoy. They will have a new love of learning that they may not have had before this situation placed you into the teacher role. Trust me; I was scared to death the first year I homeschooled my first daughter.
I look forward to continuing to help you through this journey as I share fantastic content I’m finding all over the internet to help you. Blessings and joy to you all, I hope you stay safe through this chaos.
